LECTRA'S EDUCATION PROGRAM: TRANSMITTING TO GENERATIONS TO COME
Having a generation of talent who are well-grounded in technology is key for the fashion industry which contantly seeks highly-skilled talent from design to production. Lectra has long been committed to supporting the training and evolution of future fashion and apparel professionals, allowing them to benefit from its solutions, expertise and industry best practices.
The Future of Fashion in a nutshell, with Noémie Balmat
Noémie Balmat (or 卓兒; she is half cantonese) started her web magazine Clausette (http://www.clausette.cc/ ) at the end of 2014, as a hub to gather news and insights about the Future of Fashion. Like Lectra, her magazine partnered with the 3rd Paris Fashion Tech Week, where she met Philippe Ribera, Lectra's Group Software Marketing Director. Recently, Noémie had the opportunity to visit the first Fablab inside Paris Fashion School "La Fabrique", where all the latest Lectra solutions are available for students to learn and be trained with up-to-date fashion-centric technologies. The visit convinced Noémie of Lectra's huge role in the Future of Fashion, especially in China: "Lectra brings game changing technology solutions to fashion brands; it helps them to innovate from the early stage of collection conception to the production of the drawn garments."
Noémie pays natural attention to the fast-changing fashion landscape in China, where half of her family is from. On top of the current trends of fashion merging with technology or with science, Noémie is keen on highlighting the rising stars of the fashion sphere from Greater China, such as Qingyang Liu, Yiqing Yin or Yang li, who inspire her the most. "Lots of people still think of China as the factory of the world, when it is actually full of talented people focused on quality, centuries of garment tradition, and doing their best to change this reputation.
"Made in China" doesn't have the same meaning today as it had before. And this is actually a game-changing shift". According to Noémie, the Future of Fashion is first of all incarnated by talented humans, beyond technologies. True to her belief and besides her editorial activities, Noémie is currently participating in the development of Exocet Paris, a hybrid handbag brand mixing traditional leather savoir-faire with cutting edge 3D printing technology, co-created by Morning Lau, a young designer from Hong-Kong, and Yasmine Jaber.
LINGQI HUANG'S TECHNOLOGY & FASHION MIX
Linqi Huang enrolled at ESMOD, where she specialized in mesnwear style and design. Her studies there included Lectra's Modaris V7 3D pattern-making software. Out of 200 applicants who applied to be among the first to learn it, only 25 students were selected for its initial launch. Linqi believes that Modaris is great for streamlining the production process by allowing one employee to do the job of many; "it saves time, paper and materials" she said.
Linqi gave this advice to current fashion students: “In general, being a design assistant, you must have good knowledge of clothes and of the fashion universe and ready-to-wear market. You must have good execution capabilities, be fast and motivated. The challenge is speed, being able to adapt quickly to different situations and you must be able to withstand the pressure. The great part of this job is when we see our work finally realized; it’s a magical moment! I have learned a high degree of autonomy. Above all, I know how to express myself, and my ideas, through my designs. This is not an easy job. It takes a lot of energy and a lot of passion. You must know how to communicate with others and share your opinions with others and you must know your opinion.”
DONGHUA UNIVERSITY FASHION DESIGN & ENGINEERING STUDENTS
Zhang Yi and Han Yi, are master students of Fashion Design and Engineering in Donghua university. They have shared their learning experience of Lectra Kaledo and Modaris 3D softwares, "Lectra softwares combine our learning of design softwarse with the knowledge of the whole production management system, and also help us develop a deeper understanding of fashion industry. Especially for students, as we are more often to have rounds of modifications, the mastering of Lectra 2D and 3D softwares has saved us great amount of energy and money."
